Londinium was a Roman port city established in the mid-1st century CE on the north bank of the River Thames, approximately where the City of London now stands. Founded during the reign of Claudius, it developed rapidly as a mercantile hub, serving as a point of exchange between Britain and continental Europe. The settlement was razed during the Iceni uprising led by Boudica around 60โ€“61 CE, but was subsequently rebuilt and expanded into one of Britain's largest Roman cities ...
