The Hospicio Cabañas in Guadalajara is a large-scale charitable institution and one of the oldest hospital complexes in the Americas. Commissioned by Bishop Juan Ruiz de Cabañas and designed by Spanish architect Manuel Tolsá, it was constructed between 1805 and 1810 as a pioneering model of social welfare architecture.
