The Porta Nigra is a monumental Roman city gate in Trier, Germany that served as the northern entrance to the ancient city of Augusta Treverorum. Built around 200 CE from massive sandstone blocks, it stands approximately 30 metres tall and remains the most intact Roman city gate in Europe.
